Burutu Towns And Villages

Burutu is a Local Government Area in Delta State, Nigeria, set in the swampy Niger Delta on both banks of the Forcados River. The river is a channel of the River Niger, and the area sits about 30 kilometres upstream from the Bight of Benin. Its headquarters is Burutu town.

The 2006 census counted 207,977 residents, and the 2022 projection puts the figure near 285,000. The people are mostly Ijaw (Izon), organised through clan and ward communities such as Ngbilebiri-Mein, Ogbolubiri, Ogulagha, Obotebe, Tuomo and Seimbiri. In the late 19th century the Royal Niger Company built a river base at Burutu.
