Aniocha South lies among the Anioma-speaking LGAs of central Delta State, near Aniocha North, Oshimili South and Ika South. Its headquarters, Ogwashi-Uku, sits west of Asaba, the Delta State capital. The LGA is organised around 16 major communities, including Ogwashi-Uku, Nsukwa, Ubulu-Okiti and Isheagu, each covering a cluster of the smaller villages and settlements listed below. Ogwashi-Uku town itself is made up of quarters including Ikelike, its original settlement, plus Umu Dei, Azungwu, Agidiase, Agidiehe, Ogbe Akwu, Ishekpe, Ogbe Onicha, Ogbe Ubu, Ogbe Ani and Umu-okwe; Azungwu is further divided into seven sub-communities. Ogwashi-Uku is reached from Asaba by road heading west, the main route connecting the LGA to the state capital. Ewulu and Isheagu also sit on the Niger River and have river ports that serve local transport and trade for those riverine communities.
