Esit Eket Towns And Villages

Esit Eket is a Local Government Area in the Eket senatorial district of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, on the Qua Iboe River estuary. Its council seat sits at Uquo town. The area covers about 148 square kilometres.

The 2006 census counted 63,358 residents. Projections put the 2022 figure near 80,900. Esit Eket holds ten wards: Ekpene Obo, Edor, Ebe Ekpi, Ikpa, Uquo, Ebighi Okpono, Etebi Idung Assan, Etebi Akwata, Akpautong and Ntak Inyang.

Eket people, a branch of the Ibibio, farm and fish along the estuary. The Uquo gas plant, on stream since 2014, supplies close to a tenth of Nigeria’s domestic gas. Mrs. Uduak Ikemesit Ikot chairs the council.
