Nsit-Ubium is a Local Government Area in the coastal south of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Its council seat sits at Ikot Edibon, about 6 km east of Eket, near 4°46′N 7°56′E. The LGA covers about 205.2 km² and recorded a population of 127,083 at the 2006 census, projected near 162,200 by 2022.

The area was created on May 3, 1989, from the old Etinan LGA. Nsit Ibom LGA split away in September 1991, leaving Nsit-Ubium with its two clans, Nsit and Ubium. The council is subdivided into 11 political wards. Geography
The terrain is undulating, with shallow depressions, dry valleys and few large rivers. Tributaries of the Qua Iboe River drain the area, leaving marshes and swamps across much of the LGA. These wetlands widen toward the south, where the land drops toward the coastal plain around Eket.
Nsit-Ubium shares boundaries with six LGAs: Eket to the south, Okobo to the east, Nsit Atai to the north-east, Ibesikpo/Asutan to the north, and Etinan and Nsit Ibom to the west.
Demographics
The people belong to the Nsit and Ubium clans of the Ibibio ethnic group, and Ibibio is the everyday language. Settlement follows the classic Ibibio pattern of small compact villages — most place names on the list carry the prefix “Ikot”, meaning a family compound or lineage settlement. Christianity is the dominant religion, served by a dense spread of village churches.
Economy & Local Life
The economy is agrarian. Households farm oil palm, cassava, plantain and vegetables on smallholdings, and the wetlands along the Qua Iboe tributaries support fishing and dry-season farming. Village markets handle most trade, with larger commerce drawn to Eket and Uyo nearby. Civil service jobs cluster around the council secretariat at Ikot Edibon.
Getting There
The Uyo–Eket road passes through the LGA and is the main artery. Ikot Edibon lies about 6 km east of Eket and roughly 30 km south of Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital. From Uyo, share taxis and minibuses on the Eket route drop passengers at junctions serving the villages; the trip takes under an hour in normal traffic.
