Eket Towns And Villages
Eket is a local government area in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, along the Kwa Iboe River. It covers about 176 square kilometres and hosts a major ExxonMobil oil terminal and estate, making it Akwa Ibom’s main oil-industry hub.
The 2006 census counted 172,856 residents. A 2022 projection puts the figure near 220,600. Eket holds 11 wards: Urban I–IV, Central I–V and Okon I–II. Its indigenes group into four clans — Afaha, Idua, Eket Offiong and Okon.
The indigenous people call themselves Ekid; “Eket” is the European rendering of the name. Postal codes run 524101 to 524104, one per clan district. Akaniyene Tommey chairs the local government council.
