The town is an industrial metropolis that has merged with surrounding settlements. The Office of the Surveyor-General of Akwa Ibom State estimates Eket Local Government Size’s area as 176.000 square km and its population at 172,856. ┬áThe Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Economic Development estimates Eket’s 2013 population at 218,438 with a density of 1,241/sq km.
