Onitsha South Towns And Villages
Onitsha South is a Local Government Area in Anambra State’s South Central Senatorial zone, forming the historic waterside core of Onitsha city on the east bank of the Niger River. The LGA covers just 10.66 square kilometres, headquartered at Fegge, at roughly 6.13°N, 6.78°E.
The 2006 census counted 137,191 residents. Projections put the 2022 figure near 195,500, a density above 18,000 people per square kilometre — among the highest of any LGA in Nigeria. Emeka Orji has chaired the council since 2024.
Onitsha South has no rural villages. It splits into 17 registration wards across three core areas — Bridge Head by the Niger Bridge, Fegge, and Odoakpu — each a dense grid of streets, markets and trade-union halls rather than separate settlements. The list below covers its named quarters and communities, checked against 2015 INEC ward and polling-unit records, OpenStreetMap, and independent news reporting; it leaves out individual streets and market stalls.
