Geography

Nnewi South occupies rolling hill-country south of Nnewi city, bounded north by Nnewi North, west by Ekwusigo, east by Orumba South and south by Ihiala. Streams of the Anambra–Imo basin drain the LGA. Soils are red-yellow ferralitic and support oil-palm cultivation.

The 2006 census recorded 233,362 residents; the 2022 projection is 332,500. The population is overwhelmingly Igbo of the Nnewi sub-group, with strong traditional title and age-grade systems. English and Igbo are the working languages.

Getting There

The Onitsha–Owerri expressway passes through Nnewi to the north. Within the LGA, the Nnewi–Ukpor–Okija road connects the headquarters to the major towns. Sam Mbakwe Cargo Airport (Owerri) is the nearest commercial airport, 45 km south.
