Geography

Ekwusigo sits on the gently undulating plains south-west of Nnewi, bounded north by Nnewi South, west by Idemili South, east by Nnewi South and south by Ihiala. Streams of the Ulasi-Orashi drainage flow westward toward the Niger. Soils are red lateritic and support oil-palm and cassava cultivation.

The LGA’s 2006 census population was 158,429; the 2022 projection is 225,800. The population is overwhelmingly Igbo, with Christianity the predominant religion. Trade with neighbouring Nnewi sustains a large informal sector.

History
