Ado Towns And Villages
Ado is a Local Government Area in Benue State, Nigeria, created in 1989. Its headquarters sits at Igumale, on Benue’s main north-south railway line. Idoma dialects are spoken across most of the LGA; Utonkon’s residents speak Ufia, a separate language.
The 2006 census counted 184,389 residents; 2022 projections put the figure near 266,200. Ado covers roughly 992 square kilometres across ten wards: Akoge/Ogbilolo, Apa, Ekile, Igumale I, Igumale II, Ijigban, Ogege, Royongo, Ukwonyo and Ulayi. Postal codes run 973107 to 973110 across its four traditional council areas — Igumale, Ulayi, Agila and Utonkon.
Yam, cassava, rice and palm oil drive the local economy, and Agila’s soil is known for large yam tubers. Limestone deposits and a cement factory sit near Igumale. Executive chairman Sunday Oche has led the council since October 2024.
