Agaie was a 19th-century Nigerian state that covered the current LGA. After Fulani mercenaries interfered in Nupe civil conflicts in 1822, it became a Fulani emirate. The land became British in the early 20th century. Alhaji Yusuf Nuhu is Etsu nupe Agaie.
