Geography
Surulere covers about 975 km² in the north-east of Oyo State. Iresa-Adu sits at 8°05′N 4°24′E, roughly 17 km east of Ogbomoso. Settlement elevations run between about 300 and 420 metres above sea level. The land is gently rolling derived savanna, worked as farm bush and cropland.
The LGA belongs to Oyo’s Ogbomoso administrative zone, alongside Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South, Ori Ire and Ogo-Oluwa. Its eastern and southern edges run along the Osun state boundary. The Oko–Iresa-Adu road continues south from Oko as the Ejigbo–Oko road and crosses into Osun at Afaro, linking the LGA directly to Ejigbo.
Demographics
The population is Yoruba and speaks the Oyo dialect. At the 2006 figure the LGA held about 144 people per km². The 2022 projection lifts that to roughly 206 per km², low by Oyo standards and typical of a farming district.
Each of the main towns keeps its own crown. The Aresa reigns at Iresa-Adu, the Olugbon at Orile-Igbon, the Oranmiyan at Oko, and the Aresa (pupa) at Iresa-Apa. Islam and Christianity are both widely practised, and Yoruba traditional festivals still set the calendar in the smaller villages.
Economy and Local Life
Farming carries the LGA. Yam, maize and cassava are the staples, and cashew is the main cash crop, sold on to buyers in Ogbomoso and Ilorin. Many places in the list above began as farm camps and still work that way. Families keep a house in a ward town and a second one on the land.
Trade runs through periodic markets in Iresa-Adu, Igbon and Oko, and through Ogbomoso for anything the local markets do not carry. Small-scale processing — cassava into garri, palm fruit into oil — is the common non-farm work, along with transport on the ward roads.
Getting There
Ogbomoso is the gateway. The city sits on the Ibadan–Ilorin expressway, and the road east through Iresa-Apa reaches Iresa-Adu in about 30 minutes. From the south, the Ejigbo–Oko road enters the LGA at Afaro and runs up to Oko and Igbon.
The nearest airport is Ilorin International, roughly 40 km north of Iresa-Adu. Shared taxis and minibuses work the Ogbomoso–Iresa-Adu and Oko–Ejigbo routes daily; the ward roads beyond them are largely untarred and slow in the rains.
