Obowo Towns And Villages

Obowo is a Local Government Area in Imo State, Nigeria, about 45 minutes east of Owerri across the Imo River. Its headquarters sits at Otoko. INEC’s 2015 directory lists the LGA as “Obowo (Otoko)”; the widely repeated Isinweke claim is stale history from the pre-1989 Etiti LGA, whose seat now serves Ihitte/Uboma. The 2006 census counted a population of 117,432; a 2022 projection put the figure near 163,200.

Obowo formed in May 1989, carved from the old Etiti Local Government under the Ibrahim Babangida administration. It groups 22 autonomous communities across ten wards, including Alike, Amanze, Amuzi, Avutu, Ehume, Odenkume, Okwuohia, Umuariam and Umuosochie.
