Nkwerre Towns And Villages

Nkwerre is a Local Government Area in Imo State, Nigeria’s South-East. It takes its name from Nkwerre town, its headquarters. The 2006 census counted a population of 80,270 residents across roughly 38 square kilometres.

Nkwerre town is known locally as “Nkwerre Opia Egbe” — Nkwerre, the gunmaker — for its historic blacksmithing trade. Hezekiah University, a private university at Umudi, opened in the LGA in 2015. Nkwerre holds ten wards: Onusa, Nnanano, Umukor, Nkwerre IV, Nkwerre V, Owerre Nkworji I, Owerre Nkworji II, Umudi/Umuwala, Amaokpara and Eziama Obaire.
