On May 3, 1989, Nsit Ubium LGA was created from Etinan LGA, with its headquarters at Ikot Edibon. In September 1991, Nsit Ibom LGA was split apart, leaving Nsit Ubium with its two clans — Nsit and Ubium — and 65 recognised settlements.
It’s 6 km east of Eket, Okobo, Nsit Ibom, Etinan, Ibesipko/Asutan, and Nsit Atai. Between Nsit Ibom and Eket Local Government’s boundaries Qua Ibo River tributaries drain the region adequately. Nsit Ubium is 6 km east of Eket and occupies 242.942 sq kin.
The Local Government has undulating geography with small depressions, arid valleys, and few rivers. Qua Iboe River-influenced marshes and wetlands cover much of the LGA. Nsit Ubium is in Akwa Ibom’s Uyo Senatorial District.
Nsit Ubium has two clans, Nsit and Ubium, each having 31 villages. Nsit and Ubium traditionally identify by ethnicity. Ubium has Ise, Afaha, and Ukat, while Nsit has Ibiakpan, Obotim, Nduo Eduo, and Afia Nsit. People are kind, knowledgeable, and hardworking.
