Nganzai Towns And Villages

Nganzai is a Local Government Area in Borno State, Nigeria, part of the Borno Emirate in the state’s northwest. Its headquarters sits at Gajiram. The area covers about 2,467 square kilometres and was created in 1991.

The 2006 census counted 99,074 residents. Projections put the 2022 figure near 145,200. Nganzai holds twelve wards: Alarge, Badu, Damaram, Gadai, Gajiram, Jigalta, Kuda, Kurnawa, Maiwa, Miye, Sabsabuwa and Sugundure.

Kanuri households make up most of the population, with Shuwa Arab and other communities also present. The area has been affected by the Boko Haram insurgency since 2013; humanitarian mapping in the years since has recorded far more hamlets and compounds than earlier gazetteers, though not all remain inhabited today.
