Ika is one of Akwa Ibom’s 31 local government areas. Annang people (Ika-Annang) were once in the old Abak, which was partitioned into five new local governments: Abak, Oruk-Anam, Etim-Ekpo, Ukanafun, and Ika.
Igbo villages are located in Ika Local Government Area. Ikot Inyang (formerly known as Oboeze, meaning Umubueze (People of Kings) in Igbo) has significant Igbo ties.
Akwa Ibom’s Ika speaks an Annang dialect.
