Gwoza Towns And Villages

Gwoza is a Local Government Area in Borno State, Nigeria, about 135 kilometres southeast of Maiduguri. Its headquarters sits at Gwoza town, at the foot of the Mandara Mountains near the Cameroon border.

The 2006 census counted 276,568 residents. Projections put the 2022 figure near 405,200. The LGA covers about 2,883 square kilometres of hilly, rocky terrain and carries the postal code 610106.

Boko Haram seized Gwoza town in August 2014 and declared it the capital of its self-styled caliphate. Nigerian and Chadian forces retook the town in March 2015. Attacks continue in parts of the LGA; a raid struck Ngoshe in March 2026.
