Gwiwa Towns And Villages

Gwiwa is a Local Government Area in Jigawa State, north-western Nigeria, in the state’s north-west corner near Kazaure and Roni. Its headquarters is Gwiwa town. The LGA covers about 450 square kilometres of Sudan-savanna plain.

The 2006 census counted 128,730 residents. Projections put the 2022 figure near 221,400. Gwiwa is organised into 11 wards: Buntusu, Dabi, Darina, Furji Yamma, Guntai, Gwiwa, Korayel, Rorau, Shafe, Yola and Zaumar Sainawa.

Hausa-Fulani communities farm millet, sorghum, groundnuts and onions across the LGA, with Fulani herders keeping cattle and small ruminants. Gwiwa borders Roni to the north, Yankwashi to the west, Kazaure to the south and Maigatari to the east.
