With a land area of 3,478 km2 and a population of 95,544 at the 2006 census, the region is projected to have 139,000 inhabitants in 2019.
Gudu is bounded to the north and west by the Republic of Niger, to the south by Kebbi state, to the southeast by Binji LGA, and to the east by Tangaza LGA. Gudu was the capital of the Sokoto Caliphate in 1804.
