Dikwa Towns And Villages

Dikwa is a Local Government Area in Borno State, Nigeria, about 90 kilometres east of Maiduguri near the Cameroon border. Its headquarters, the town of Dikwa, is also the seat of the Dikwa Emirate, which extends across Dikwa, Ngala and Kala-Balge LGAs. The LGA covers roughly 1,774 square kilometres.

The 2006 census recorded 105,042 residents; the 2022 projection put the figure near 153,900. Dikwa town was Rabih az-Zubayr’s capital from 1893 until his defeat at Kousseri in 1900, then capital of German Borno from 1902 to 1916, before passing to British administration and, in 1961, to Nigeria by UN plebiscite. Since 2014 the LGA has sat inside the insurgency’s most contested ground; Dikwa town has changed hands more than once and hosts a military garrison and several IDP camps alongside its older wards of Boboshe, Gajibo, Afuye, Magarta, Mallam Maja and Mudu Kaza.
