Ukwa East is a Local Government Area in the Nigerian state of Abia. Its headquarters are located in Akwete. Ukwa East is surrounded by the states of Akwa Ibom and Rivers.
As of the 2006 census, it had a total area of 280 km2 and a population of 58,865. It has 14 political wards recognised by the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission and 10 political wards recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which conducts national elections for Nigeria. Akwa Ibom State shares the Azumini boundary with Ukwa East.
