Akinyele is a Local Government Area in the Nigerian state of Oyo. It is one of the eleven local governments that comprise the metropolitan area of Ibadan. It has its headquarters in Moniya.
1976 saw the establishment of the Akinyele local government area, which shares its borders with Afijio Local Government to the north, Lagelu Local Government Area to the east, Ido Local Government Area to the west, and Ibadan North Local Government Area to the south.
It has a population density of 516 people per square kilometre and a land area of 464.892 square kilometres. Using the 2006 census growth rate of 3.2%, the estimated population of the Local Government in 2010 is 239,745.
