Isuikwuato is a local government area in the southern Nigerian state of Abia. Isu-Ikwu-Ato means ‘three Isu families or lineages’ in Igbo and refers to the three lineages descended from the Isu people in what is today a local government district.
The three brothers are Imenyi, who is the eldest; Oguduasaa, who is his younger brother from the same mother; and Isuamawo, who is the second-oldest and firstborn from the second wife.

Isuikwuato is made up of three large clans with several villages in each. Over 50,000 live there. Isuikwuato possesses iron and kaolin. Burst oil lines in Isuikwuato have hurt the local economy and ecology. Palm oil and cassava are cash crops. Isuikwuato’s loose soil erodes, leaving severe erosion spots.
They lack government support to develop drainages to direct water flow and protect the land. Isuikwuato’s hills and highlands make water a valuable yet hard-to-get resource. Abia State University Uturu is located in Isuikwuato.
Isuikwuato is mostly Christians. Other denominations are dominated by Catholics, Anglicans, Presbyterians, and Methodists, but Assemblies of God have grown.
