Jalingo Towns And Villages

Jalingo is the capital of Taraba State in north-eastern Nigeria, seat of the Muri Emirate and home to the state secretariat. The 2006 census counted 140,318 residents; the 2022 projection puts the LGA near 220,700. Jalingo sits at roughly 8°54â€ēN 11°22â€ēE. Its name comes from Fulfulde and translates as “excellent place.”

Fulani settlers who arrived during the 19th-century jihad of Usman dan Fodio form the largest group in the city today, alongside Mumuye, Hausa and other Taraba communities; Fulfulde, Hausa and Mumuye are all commonly spoken. The LGA is organised into ten wards: Abbare Yelwa, Barade, Kachalla Sembe, Kona, Majidadi, Mayo Goi, Sarkin Dawaki, Sintali, Turaki ‘A’ and Turaki ‘B’.
