Esan West is a Local Government Area in Edo State, Nigeria, headquartered at Ekpoma, home to Ambrose Alli University. The LGA covers about 502 square kilometres and holds ten wards: Egoro/Idoa/Ukhun, Emaudo/Eguare/Ekpoma, Emuhi/Ukpenu/Ujoelen, Ihunmudumu/Idumebo/Uke/Ujemen, Illeh/Eko-Ine, Iruekpen, Ogwa, Uhiele, Ujiogba and Urohi.

The 2006 census counted 127,718 residents (65,312 male, 62,406 female). The Esan people farm cassava, yam and oil palm across the area’s town and quarter clusters, and Ekpoma’s postal code range starts at 310001.
