St. Joseph County is part of the Kalamazoo-Battle Creek-Portage, MI Combined Statistical Area and the Sturgis, MI Micropolitan Statistical Area.
The county has a total area of 521 square miles (1,350 km2), of which 501 square miles (1,300 km2) is land and 20 square miles (52 km2) (3.9%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
By total area, it is Michigan’s fourth-smallest county.
