Sandusky is the county seat.

The county was made on September 10, 1822, and it was all set up by the end of 1849.

People think of Sanilac County as a part of the Thumb of Michigan, which is a part of the Flint/Tri-Cities area.

In towns like Lexington, Port Sanilac, and Carsonville, which are in Sanilac County, seasonal tourism is a big deal.
