The county was established on December 14, 1827, as Georgia’s 73rd county.
It was named after David Meriwether, a Georgia congressman and American Revolutionary War general.
Meriwether County is included in the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell, GA Combined Statistical Area.
