History
Miller County was created on February 26, 1856, from parts of Baker and Early counties, and named for Andrew Jackson Miller (1806–1856), a state legislator and president of the Medical College of Georgia. Colquitt has served as the county seat continuously since the county’s founding. Like much of southwest Georgia, the county’s economy shifted from cotton to diversified row crops and livestock over the 20th century as the boll weevil and later mechanization reshaped farming.
