The population was 25,945 as of the 2020 census, making it Vermont’s third-smallest county.
The town of Hyde Park serves as the county seat, while Morristown is the county’s largest town by population and its primary commercial centre.
The county was formed in 1835 from parts of Orleans, Franklin, Washington, and Chittenden Counties and was incorporated the following year.
The county has a total area of 464 square miles (1,200 km2), of which 459 square miles (1,190 km2) is land and 4.9 square miles (13 km2) (1.1%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
