Coffee County is a county in the southeast of the state of Georgia in the United States.
At the 2020 census, there were 43,092 people living there, which was up from 37,413 at the 2010 census.
Douglas is the county seat.
The Douglas, GA Micropolitan Statistical Area is made up of Coffee County.
On February 9, 1854, the Georgia General Assembly passed a law that made Coffee County out of parts of Clinch, Irwin, Telfair, and Ware counties.
Before becoming Coffee County, these lands were given by the Creek in the Treaty of Fort Jackson in 1814 and the Treaty of the Creek Agency in 1818.
They were then split between the counties listed above.
After that, parts of Coffee County were used to make the counties of Berrien (1856), Jeff Davis (1905), and Atkinson (1917).
General John E. Coffee, a state legislator and U.S. representative, is honored by the name of the county.
The county has a total area of 603 square miles (1,560 km2), of which 575 square miles (1,490 km2) are land and 28 square miles (73 km2) (4.6%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
