It is named for Gen. Lewis Cass, Michigan’s second territorial governor and later Secretary of War under President Andrew Jackson.
The county has a total area of 414.85 square miles (1,074.5 km2), of which 412.16 square miles (1,067.5 km2) (or 99.35%) is land and 2.69 square miles (7.0 km2) (or 0.65%) is water, according to the 2010 census. The Wabash River runs west through the county, meeting the Eel River near Logansport.
