On January 31, 1836, the Tennessee state legislature set up Cannon County.
It was made up of parts of Rutherford, Smith, Wilson, and Warren counties, and it was named for Governor Newton Cannon.
This was part of Middle Tennessee, where people raised both crops and animals, like thoroughbred horses.
