Anadarko is the county seat.
The county was made in 1901 as a part of Oklahoma Territory.
It is named after the Caddo tribe, which moved here in the 1870s and set up a reservation.
The county has a total area of 1,290 square miles (3,300 km2), of which 1,278 square miles (3,310 km2) are land and 12 square miles (31 km2) (0.9%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
