Durant is the county seat.

It is America’s only county named after Democratic politician William Jennings Bryan.

Bryan County is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth and Texoma region, TX-OK combined statistical area, as is the Durant, OK micropolitan statistical area.

The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma’s headquarters are located in Durant.

The county has a total area of 944 square miles (2,440 km2), of which 904 square miles (2,340 km2) is land and 39 square miles (100 km2) (4.2%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
