Giwa Towns And Villages

Giwa is a Local Government Area in Kaduna State, Nigeria, about 40 kilometres north of Zaria. Its headquarters sits at Giwa town, near 11°19′N 7°27′E. The LGA has an area of 2,066 km2.

The 2006 census recorded a population of 292,384. A 2022 projection put the figure near 432,000. Giwa holds 11 wards: Giwa, Kakangi, Gangara, Shika, Danmahawayi, Yakawada, Idasu, Kidandan, Galadimawa, Kadage and Pan Hauya.

Hausa and Fulani farmers grow onions, tomatoes, watermelons and cucumbers here, and keep cattle and rams; a weekly market serves the area. Giwa shares borders with Zaria, Igabi and Birnin Gwari within Kaduna State, and reaches the Katsina and Zamfara state lines to the north and west. It was carved out of Igabi Local Government Area on 15 September 1991.
