Mai-Ndombe is one of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s 21 new provinces created after the 2015 repartitioning.
The old Bandundu province was divided into three provinces: Mai-Ndombe, Kwango, and Kwilu.
Mai-Ndombe arose from the Plateaux and Mai-Ndombe districts. Inongo was designated as the new province’s capital.
The 2020 population is expected to be 2,254,100.
