Tshuapa is one of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s 21 new provinces created after the 2015 repartitioning.
Tshuapa, Équateur, Mongala, Nord-Ubangi, and Sud-Ubangi provinces resulted from the disintegration of the former Équateur province.
Tshuapa was founded from the Tshuapa District, with Boende serving as the new province’s capital city.
The province is named after the Tshuapa River. It is located in the country’s northwest, on the Congo River.
