In the U.S. state of Indiana, Whitley County is a farming county.
As of the United States census in 2020, there were 34,191 people living there.
Whitley County is Indiana’s 49th biggest county. Columbia City is the only city in the county.
It is also the county center. The county number on Indiana license plates is 92, which is the largest number because it is the last county in the state’s list.
It is in the Fort Wayne Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Fort Wayne–Huntington–Auburn Combined Statistical Area.
Near the end of 1816, Indiana became a state. On February 7, 1835, the state assembly passed a “omnibus bill” that made it possible for thirteen counties, including Whitley, to be created.
It was named after Col. William Whitley, who died during the War of 1812 at the Battle of the Thames.
According to the 2010 US Census, the county has a total area of 337.91 square miles (875.2 km2), of which 335.57 square miles (869.1 km2) (or 99.31%) is land and 2.34 square miles (6.1 km2) (or 0.69%) is water.
