In 1841, the western part of Warren County became Henderson County.
Dr. Joseph Warren, who died at the Battle of Bunker Hill in 1775, was the inspiration for the name of Warren County.
It is thought that he was the first officer to die in the American Revolutionary War.
The present courthouse was finished in 1895. It is made of red Portage stone.
The county has a total area of 543 square miles (1,410 km2), of which 542 square miles (1,400 km2) are land and 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2) (0.1%) are water, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
