Tipton County is in the U.S. state of Indiana. It is north of Indianapolis, which is the state capital.
It had 15,936 people living there in 2010, which is 3.9% less than the 16,577 people who lived there in 2000.
Tipton is the county seat.
The county has four incorporated towns with a combined population of about 7,000, as well as a large number of small towns that are not organized.
It is split into six villages, each of which provides services to the area.
On January 15, the same piece of legislation created both Tipton County and Howard County.
According to the 2010 census, the county covers a total area of 260.57 square miles (674.9 km2), of which 260.54 square miles (674.8 km2) (or 99.99%) is land and 0.03 square miles (0.078 km2) (or 0.01%) is water.
