Tippecanoe County is located in west-central Indiana, about 22 miles east of the Illinois state line and less than 50 miles from the Chicago and Indianapolis metropolitan areas.

The population was 172,780 according to the 2010 census.

Lafayette is the county seat and the major city.

It was formed in 1826 by combining the Wabash County section of the New Purchase with unorganized area.

The county has a total area of 503.24 square miles (1,303.4 km2), of which 499.81 square miles (1,294.5 km2) (or 99.32%) is land and 3.44 square miles (8.9 km2) (or 0.68%) is water, according to the 2010 census.[5] Lauramie Township contains the county’s highest point.
