Simpson County is a county in the U.S. state of Kentucky.
It is in the south central part of the state.
As of the 2020 census, there were 19,594 people living there.
Franklin is the county seat.
In 1819, Allen, Logan, and Warren Counties were merged to make Simpson County.
The county is named after Captain John Simpson, a Kentucky militia officer who died in the Battle of River Raisin during the War of 1812 and fought in the Battle of Fallen Timbers during the Northwest Indian War.
The US Census Bureau says that the county is 236 square miles (610 km2) in size, with 234 square miles (610 km2) of land and 2.3 square miles (6.0 km2) of water (1%).
The county is in the part of the state called the Pennyroyal Plateau.
