Tiffin is the county seat.
The county was established in 1820 and incorporated in 1824.
It is named after the Seneca Indians, the Iroquois Confederacy’s westernmost nation.
This tribe was based in modern-day New York, but their territory extended into Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Seneca County is included in the Findlay-Tiffin, OH Combined Statistical Area, as is the Tiffin, OH Micropolitan Statistical Area.
