Seneca County is a county in the northwest corner of the state of Ohio.

The population was 55,069 at the time of the 2020 census.

Tiffin is the county seat.

The county was established in 1820 and incorporated in 1824.

It is named after the Seneca Indians, the Iroquois Confederacy’s westernmost nation.

This tribe was based in modern-day New York, but their territory extended into Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Seneca County is included in the Findlay-Tiffin, OH Combined Statistical Area, as is the Tiffin, OH Micropolitan Statistical Area.

The county has a total area of 553 square miles (1,430 km2), of which 551 square miles (1,430 km2) is land and 1.8 square miles (4.7 km2) (0.3%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
