Motley County is a county in the state of Texas in the United States.
As of the 2020 census, there were 1,063 people living there.
This made it the 10th least populated county in Texas.
Matador is the county seat.
The county was made in 1876, and in 1891 it was put together.
It is named for Junius William Mottley, who signed the Texas Declaration of Independence.
Mottley’s name is written wrong because it was misspelt in the bill that made the county.
Motley County used to be one of Texas’s 30 prohibition or “dry” counties, but it is now a “wet” county.
The U.S. Census Bureau says that the county has a total area of 990 sq mi (2,600 km2), of which 990 sq mi (2,600 km2) are land and 0.2 sq mi (0.52 km2) (0.03%) are water.
