Geography
Morris County sits in the East Texas Piney Woods, a rolling, heavily forested landscape of pine and hardwood timber cut by small creeks draining toward the Sulphur and Big Cypress river systems. Lake Daingerfield, inside Daingerfield State Park, is the county’s principal reservoir. The county is bordered by Bowie County to the north, Cass County to the east, Marion County to the southeast, Upshur County to the south, Camp County to the southwest, Titus County to the west, and Red River County to the northwest.

History
Morris County was organized in 1875, carved from Titus County, and was probably named for William Wright Morris, an early judge and planter from Henderson, Texas. Like much of East Texas, the county was historically dry under local option prohibition; as of 2016 it is classified as partially wet rather than one of the state’s remaining completely dry counties.
