Morris County was most likely named after William Wright Morris, an early judge and planter from Henderson, Texas, which is located in northeast Texas.
Morris County is no longer one of the state’s six prohibition, or completely dry, counties as of 2016. Morris County is presently classified as “partially wet.”
The county has a total area of 259 square miles (670 km2), of which 252 square miles (650 km2) is land and 6.7 square miles (17 km2) (2.6%) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
It has the fifth-smallest land area in Texas and the fourth-smallest total area.
