What Is Facebook Marketplace?
Marketplace is Facebook’s shopping feature for buying and selling items locally. It launched in 2016 as Facebook’s answer to classified sites like Craigslist and eBay. Unlike stores that only let you buy, Marketplace lets you do both.
It connects people in the same area. You pick a distance range, and listings from sellers inside it show up in your feed. Most deals are handled directly between buyer and seller over Messenger.
How to Find Marketplace
- Open the Facebook app.
- Tap the storefront icon in the top or bottom bar, or tap Menu ☰ and choose Marketplace.
- Set your location and search distance to see nearby listings.
If you don’t see Marketplace, update the app to the latest version. It can be hidden for new accounts or unavailable in a few countries.
How to Buy
- Open Marketplace and tap the item you want.
- Tap Message and ask if it’s still available.
- Agree on a price and a public place to meet, or pay through checkout if the seller ships.
How to Sell
- In Marketplace, tap Create new listing > Item for sale.
- Add photos, a title, a price, and a short description.
- Tap Publish. Your listing shows to nearby buyers first.
