How to create an additional Facebook profile
- Tap your profile picture in the top corner of the Facebook app.
- Tap See all profiles.
- Tap Create profile (or Create new profile), then Get started.
- Enter a name for the profile. It must be distinctive and cannot contain numbers or special characters. It does not have to be your legal name.
- Follow the prompts to finish. You can add a separate profile picture and details.
You can create up to 4 additional profiles, giving you 5 in total including your main one.
How to switch between your profiles
- Tap your profile picture in the top corner.
- Tap See all profiles.
- Tap the profile you want to use. Facebook switches you over without asking for a password.
Each profile keeps its own feed, friends, and notifications, so the workplace profile stays separate from the friends one.
The rules and limits
Additional profiles are covered by Facebook’s policies. A few limits matter:
- Adults only. The feature is available to eligible adult accounts, and not in every region.
- Your main profile keeps your real name. Additional profiles can use a different distinctive name, but they cannot impersonate someone else.
- Some features stay on the main profile. Dating, Marketplace, and Professional mode are not available on additional profiles (Meta has said this may expand over time).
- One strike can hit all of them. If a profile repeatedly breaks the rules, Facebook can remove that profile or your whole account.
Want two genuinely separate accounts instead?
Additional profiles share one login. If you need two fully independent accounts, Facebook’s documented flow is to keep them signed in on different apps or browsers. Sign into the first account in your normal browser, then open a second browser (or a private/incognito window) and sign into the other. This avoids the two accounts clashing over the same cookies. Note that running multiple full accounts to break Facebook’s rules can get them banned.
